Hi there, I'm Patrizia Visconti!
I'm passionate about empowering young families and kids during meals and to feel confident in their choices. I'm a Physician Associate and a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor specializing in kids.
My mission and biggest privilege is to promote mind-body connection and strengthen (sometimes re-establish) our intuitive eating.
Coming from an Italian and Venezuelan background, many family gatherings and events revolved around food preparation and eating. Sometimes, I would reject certain foods or would not eat certain meals. This was unacceptable in my culture. I was constantly labeled a "picky eater". My parens and I were judged and I would frequently eat to avoid labels, people's judgement, and feelings of shame and guilt. We didn't have the proper tools to navigate these situations. Going out to dinner or eating at someone else's home, was a big nightmare for me.
When I became a mom, I did A LOT of research about nutrition and feeding practices. I wanted to offer my daughter the opportunity to have a healthy relationship with food and herself. After learning about Intuitive Eating from a Nutritionist who specializes in Eating Disorders, Beatriz Verdi, (who also happens to be my cousin), I felt the world needed to know all about it! I decided to get certified as an Intuitive Eating Counselor to help other people with their relationship with food and their bodies. Beatriz has over 20 yrs of experience in treating Eating Disorders and she has been my biggest mentor on this journey.
With clients and even with my own daughter, I've seen firsthand how diet culture and generational trauma can negatively impact children's self-esteem and well-being. That's why I advocate for an integral and intuitive approach to eating that promotes positive body image and habits that will give YOU and YOUR child all the tools to become Empowered Eaters.
I offer individual and group counseling sessions that are tailored to each family and child's unique needs, helping them understand and tune in to their own body cues. Through fun and engaging activities, I teach children to explore the journey of nurturing their bodies, as well as educating them (+ their families) about self-regulation, the power of autonomy, body respect and informed consent, with a weight neutral and health at every size approach.
I strongly believe that building a community of Empowered Eaters can be one of the many ways to help prevent a range of behaviors from social marginalization, bullying, body bashing, to mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression and eating disorders.
My ultimate goal is to empower children and their families to become confident, intuitive eaters who feel good about themselves inside and out.
